Chatterbox

I’d planned to get the “Hug a Fruit” tribute post up today, but I was a little too tired to finish it, thanks to…

A certain date with Sports Store hottie!

NYC2010 226

(The appropriate Africard of the day)

I don’t want to bore you, so I’ll simply say I had an awesome time. We have so much in common it’s scary, and I don’t think there was a single awkward silence the whole night. (That may be partially due to the fact that I’m a bit of a chatterbox.)  Unfortunately, I have no photos for you… Although I feel really comfortable sharing with SSH, I just wasn’t ready to bring up the blog. We talked about running, about our rescue dogs, about high school and college and working out and politics… but I still felt weird saying, “Oh by the way, guy that I just met, I like to take pictures of food.”

Question for other bloggers: how long after you’re dating someone do you tell him/her about your blog?

Lol, I do come here for the recipes, but I want to hear more about the boy! 🙂 I’m so glad you had a great time. I hope you get to see him again before you head home

Aww, thanks for sharing your date with us! I usually tell people about my blog within the first day of meeting them, but I can see where dating would be different. I had to tell my husband about it preeeetty early. 😉 Although, I know some bloggers -not necessarily in the food world- don’t tell their spouses about their blog!

i’m so glad you had a nice time – nothin’ like good talk 🙂

i so very rarely even discuss my love life on my blog. i’ll occasionally bring up a past story when talking about how it affected my life, but to read my blog you’d have no idea who i’m dating at any given point in time.

my friends know i have ‘a blog’ but as far as i know, only the ones who blog themselves read it (i have a big problem with the ‘anonymous follower’ feature, btw…). once you have friends and family reading it, often you find yourself self-censoring, so it’s always a challenge. my blog’s been about pushing myself to talk openly, be more vulnerable, express both good and bad and everything in between, and when you’re just meeting someone? can be a bit of a shock to the system unless they too are writers and ‘get’ why we do what we do 🙂

Awe, I love stories about boys! My last serious boyfriend and I would talk for hours on end with no pause. Even though you live far apart, maybe you’ll find each other again some day! Definitely keep talking to each other, that’s precious

What!! That’s all the info we get?? Yes, I come here for the recipes…. but I definitely don’t mind hearing about your life adventures.

    🙂

  7. Roselie says

Glad your date went so well! Hmm not that I mind reading about the boy and not recipes but maybe you should be careful that from not talking about yourself at all you ‘ll start talking a bit too much you know what I mean? Not that you do it now just a thought!

    Cheers!

There’s always time for recipes…it’s not every day we can live vicariously through your successful dating life. 🙂

PS- I pretty much whip out my camera at every meal…so if we’re out to dinner, any potential friendboy is going to find out about the blog….
PPS- They get bonus points if they actually help set up the shots and make sure we are at a good table for lighting purposes.

I love the stories. And those kinds of moments/interactions…I had the same experience with my partner; we talked and talked (8 hours), I ended up staying in the town where he lived (I was just there to “camp”) and we moved in together five days later. Little fast, in hindsight, but true connections are rare; I’m glad you’re potentially experiencing one!

As much as I love the recipes, It’s great to hear about the good times of the girl behind the deliciousness! And it gives me a little more confidence to start chatting with my local SSH 😉

I know! I so want to post a photo of him… but if I don’t even tell him about my blog, I can’t–in all fairness–post his picture :(.
It’d be too creepy of me if he happened to find out about my blog!

  12. Runner girl says

Were you nervous, or was it awkward, when you first told Sport Store hottie that you were a vegan?
    Love your blog, just curious!

  13. *Andrea* says

Yayyy! Glad you had a fun time. Passionate, beautiful, healthy, intelligent, artistic… You’re certainly a catch 😉 I hope he is too!

  14. Mary @ Bites and Bliss says

ahhhhh YAYY!!!! Sounds like he’s a keeper 😉 Dont wanna jinx it though *knocks on wood*
I’ve been dating Michael for ~2 months and am going to reveal the blog to him in a few hours..ahhh!! I’m kind of nervous to hear his reaction even though I know he’ll probably be really interested in it. Good thing he doesnt judge 😛
I’m sure your new boy wouldn’t judge either! He sounds great! 😀

  15. melindard says

Glad it went well. That was how it happened the first time I met my husband. We talked and talked and had so much in common. It is a nice feeling, so enjoy it.

  16. Faith says

YAY for great dates with cute boys! So glad it went well 🙂

I’m not sure how I’d go about telling a bf about my blog. Obviously, he’d have to know about my past with an eating disorder, and I’d have to feel fairly comfortable with him to share that.

  17. Tyler says

It took me 8 months to tell my boy…actually I didn’t even tell him. A friend casually mentioned it to him one time, not realizing I had not told him about it yet. I got really embarrassed for some reason, but now its nice that I can talk about him sometimes on my blog without feeling creepy!

  18. QueenofFitness says

hmmm…since i just started reading i’m not sure why you are only where you are for short time (maybe you are heading back to school in a few weeks?) but perhaps you could wait to see if things get more serious before you tell him about the blog. as others have said it may begin to hinder what you decide to share on your blog. you don’t ever want to reveal too much too soon. i think it’s great to give people an alias to keep their identity secret. of course i work in a profession where confidentiality is a HUGE part of my day so i am overly cautious about these things. maybe if things progress to a serious point you could tell him then. you don’t want someone lurking if things don’t work out. sounds like you had a great time though.

i love this katie! it’s so fun, i wish you had more details hahah! i love early budding romance! i’ve been single for so long, by choice, and i think i’m ready to start dating someone now.. 🙂 🙂 so i’m loving listening to your stories, you’re helping me hahahah!

  20. ruby red says

Oh, I did not consider the boy-talk “blab” at all – you know I find it incredibly exciting! Hahaha my extremely curious (errr…nosy?) self would jump up and down at a picture of this happy new pair! Anyway, I am so so glad that you had a wonderful time. B.T.dubs, your Africard skillz are off the charts!!

  21. erin says

crushes are fun, love is fun… you made me smile. 🙂 enjoy whatever moments you have with him. and tell us all! We like knowing your happiness. 🙂

  22. BroccoliHut says

Yay! Date success! I remember when I first met Seth for coffee we talked for two hours non-stop. I don’t think we were even officially “dating” when I told him about the blog–I’m not very good at keeping secrets 😉

  23. Danielle says

I’m glad the date went well!! I def. like hearing about your life stories as much as I like the recipes 😀

I don’t know why…but I’d be totally embarrassed to talk about my blog to a guy. I’m not ashamed of my blog at ALL, I just think a guy wouldn’t understand it? hah idk…I’ll deal with that when the time comes!

  24. Ilana says

ahh so glad it went well!!
i never actually told my boyfriend about my blog, he achieved creeper stalker status and found out about it on his own!!

  25. Efi says

This story is so amazing. Thanks for sharing with us. And don’t worry about the recipes, because I think although they are great, the main reason people come to your blog is how kind and a good character you are.

I never had a date, in my life. I mean I had two boyfriends, the first one was in highscool, where we only met in school, playing tennis and things like that. The second one was a love at first sight relationship, and we moved in together the next day.
Now that I read it I thing I m very weird, haha

  26. vegetalion says

The boyfriend and I met online, so before we’d even met, I’d sent him a link to my blog, because we both mentioned how much we enjoyed cooking in our messages to each other. I’m not sure how it would’ve come up in real-life conversation at first…

  27. Sharon says

omg i’m trying to find the right time to tell people i know about my blog too! sometimes it gets awkward if i dont know the person too well so i put if all until i’ve hung with them maybe once or twice. even my best friends thinks my food-picture taking is slightly peculiar but i enjoy doing it so much that it doesnt bother me too much. plus if you feel comfortable with the person/people your with taking the pics in public becomes less of a big deal. congrats on the SSH 🙂

  28. amandatrombley says

Oh my! I’ve been offline a bit this summer and just catching up on your blog. Yay for SSH!! That is wonderful, Katie. It’s definitely a good sign that the two of you can chat for hours. I love hearing about it..makes me smile so please do keep up with the updates! Hugs from Boston!
