When I was little, we’d make breakfast banana pops weekly during the spring and summer months, rolling the bananas in anything from cinnamon and sugar, to granola and raisins or mini chocolate chips, to crushed chocolate chip cookies.

The no bake recipe is also great for those who hate to cook, because you don’t ever need to turn on an oven. With just three or four ingredients, it’s pretty much foolproof!

Frozen Yogurt Banana Pops

As a kid-friendly snack, the pops are packed with potassium.

Or serve the banana pops as part of a healthy balanced breakfast, along with a protein source such as yogurt or this savory vegetable Tofu Scramble Recipe.

I especially love the frozen bananas after running outside on a hot day or as a fast and healthy post-workout option.

Healthy Snack Banana Popsicles with mini chocolate chips and granola

Breakfast Banana Flavors

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup: Dip frozen bananas in melted chocolate, then dip each banana halfway down in gently warmed up peanut butter.

Cinnamon Roll Bananas: Mix three parts sweetener to one part cinnamon. Roll the bananas in the cinnamon sugar mixture before freezing.

Almond Butter Granola: Warm up almond butter on the stovetop or in the microwave. Dip or spread on the bananas, then roll in your favorite cereal.

Strawberries and Cream: Dip bananas in plain or vanilla yogurt. Then dip in freeze-dried strawberry powder. Freeze. Kids love this variation because of the fun pink color.

Or try any of these other toppings: crushed walnuts or pecans, shredded coconut, Cheerios, rainbow sprinkles, chopped peanuts or almonds or pistachios, crushed Oreos, rolled oats, chia seeds or hemp seeds, or anything else you can imagine!

How to make the breakfast banana pops

Start by gathering all of your tools and ingredients.

Peel the bananas, and cut them in half widthwise. Insert a popsicle stick or the thin side of a spoon into the flat bottom of each halved banana.

Pour toppings such as granola, cereal, or crushed cookies into a shallow dish or plate.

If using a natural nut butter, or if coating in chocolate, gently warm until smooth and easily stir-able.

Dip each banana into your yogurt, chocolate, or nut butter. Then roll in desired toppings or stick large toppings on by hand.

Place the bananas on a tray lined with wax paper or parchment paper, and freeze to set the coating. Store leftover chocolate or frozen yogurt banana popsicles in the freezer.

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas
  • yogurt, nut butter, or melted chocolate
  • toppings of choice (see above for many flavor ideas)
  • popsicle sticks or spoons
  • tray lined with parchment or wax paper

      i also looooveee baking in the kitchen, but i don’t think my family is so enthusiastic about everything i make 🙂 for some reason, even when i follow recipes my food comes out sort of lumpy, sometimes tasty, and… unique.

    I feel ya about not wanting to turn on the oven in the summer… I live in Minnesota (yes I know shocker it gets hot here too!) and I don’t have air conditioning, so its a whooping 90 degrees in here! It kills me not to ba able to use the oven, so I’ve been working on some no bake recipes too (Cookie Butter!!). Love the idea of covering the bananas in yogurt. Chocolate covered bananas are my favorite, so I’ll have to try this out. 🙂
    As for cooking when I was younger…I LOVED IT! My sister and I were always videoing our own cooking shows. They are pretty funny to look back on. Was anyone into using their EasyBake Oven as much as I was? I once made my mom a 11 layered cake with it. You know how long that must have taken? Haha. Good times.

    I love this idea! How cute and tasty! I loved to help out when I was little. I think that’s one reason I love to cook now. I also ate a wider variety of foods by helping out in the kitchen because I saw what was being made and got to test it all the way from prep to finished meal.

    I always wanted to help out in the kitchen as a kid, but my mom was far too practical for that (kids make messes!). Now I like to have my kids help out with the cooking as much as possible. My 3 year old just helped me make some pancakes this morning! She loves to cook & I want to encourage her inner chef as much as possible.

        No… there are cinnamon rolls.. no… why would you say that… I hate to make it worse, but please post the cinnamon rolls…now I’m just trying to figure out what they’re made of… I now it’s hard for you not to post the recipes… but think about how hard it is for me now that I know there are cinnamon rolls… :S…I”m going to eat my bananas and dream about cinnamon rolls.. :D..The banana idea is great ..     What a great way to use up all those bananas that are getting too ripe too fast. I usually throw them in the freezer to use in a banana bread or to grind up in my Magic Bullet to eat as banana “ice cream”. I just have to find the room for them in my freezer!

    what a genius idea! I love bananas, yogurt, and oatmeal, and I LOVE frozen bananas. I usually grind it up with yogurt, to create an ice cream type of dessert, but this is fantastic as well. Easy on the go, on a hot day. I’m already thinking of vaiations and add-ons I’d like to do – most of them involve peanut butter.

    Great idea. It’s a good thing I absolutely LOVE bananas. My only problem with them is that they’re not chocolate… so .. I just add them to chocolate. I’m a banana addicted chocoholic.. and with the chocolate chips this recipe is just for me or Maybe I should make chocolate pops with banana pieces… hmm… or maybe I should just make chocolate pops with chocolate pieces and eat my banana later.. yep that sounds good… LOL.. great idea I’ll be trying it out soon. Ohh.. and btw I’d run if I were you because if you really are chocolate-covered there’s a pretty good chance I’m going to eat you.. 😀

    Hmmmm…I’m thinking I need to spread the bananas with peanut butter, or better yet, Nutella instead of yogurt! Then add granola, coconut and, of course, a little more chocolate!! Great idea!!

    Hey I was thinking the other day – and maybe you’ve already thought to put something like this in your cookbook, if so I apologize – but have you ever considered experimenting with indulgent-yet-healthy granola or muesli cereal recipes?

    I made these today – they were really good! Though I had some difficulty because all I had on hand was greek yogurt, which is much thicker (and less liquid-y) than regular or soy yogurt. It still worked all right though 🙂

    What a GREAT idea for kids!! I am going to make this for my kids this weekend for a special breakfast treat!! I think I will omit the chocolate (since it’s for breakfast) and add unsweetened coconut and maybe some crushed nuts!! YUMM!!

    I really dislike bananas, so I might try them with something else. Maybe they would work with something like coconut milk (mixed with cocoa) 😀 I really want to like bananas, but I just can’t seem to 🙁

    I really liked healping mommy inthe kitchen, but we hada really small one so I was mostly in the way. Now we have a bigger kitchen with a lot more space, but it’s still a bit small for two, so I don’t get to help out a lot.

    7 pages, gives me a headache just thinking about it :S

    I love this idea! No bake treats are about all I can handle in this heat too. It’s in the 90’s and humid in NY. Oh, eating raw cookie dough/ cake batter was about all I was good for in the kitchen as a kid 🙂

    These look delicious, and so easy! I love all the variations you could do to this recipe. My mom used to buy these frozen banana pops when I was little, and they were literally just bananas dipped in chocolate and frozen…not very ingenious, but sooo good. And I’m still a kid, but yes, I LOVE helping out in the kitchen. My favorite part of cooking is getting to taste-test. Last week I had a cold and I couldn’t taste anything, but I still had to sample everything; cooking just wouldn’t be the same without sampling!

    LOVE this idea. I have done these by freezing the banana first then dipping in cacoa chips melted in coconut oil, then refreeze = chocolate covered banana pops. These are a favorite treat of mine. Like the idea of dipping in yogurt too – have to try this out. Thanks for the idea.

    I lived on a farm growing up and the baking day was Saturday and the aim was to fill the tins for the following week. Farmers need a lot of calories and that was one way to get them in. I helped out on this most exciting of days and learned to bake very early on.
    Those banana pops look very healthy and could fool a kid into thinking they were eating something decadent.

    I love chocolate covered frozen bananas as a summer treat! I used to get them at the baseball games and summer festivals but my friends made fun of me for eating such a provocative looking treat. Your recipe looks so much less dirty then a plain chocolate covered banana, thanks!

    Frozen bananas? Sounds yummy! Mango has the same creamy texture when you freeze them too…or maybe that’s peaches, haha

    I was the same when I was younger. Whenever my mom let me wash dishes I was always eager to do it. It was the same with eating the cake batter left in the bowl. Yum! My mother would be sure to scrape out as much as possible and then me and my brother would attack the bowl. 😀

    I modified it, I cut the banana into small pieces (1/2 – 2/3 inch each), dipped in acid soy yogurt, used homemade granola (bran, oats, sesame seeds & cereal). and then i covered them with the magic shell of hot chocolate butter artisana cacao bliss style 😉 i threw shredded coconut and sprinkles on top. then I kept them in the fridge. my 1 year old goddaughter loved them!

    I also used the hot chocolate butter for a mint-chocolate dessert I made with tofu and banana 🙂
    thanks again! I am happy I could give to my very good friend and her daughter (my goddaughter) completely vegan yummy food :)!

    I just wanted to tell you that I am working at a weight loss camp for teenagers over the summer and culinary/nutrition classes are going to be offered to the campers. We are using the banana pop recipe as a dessert for the kids. They will be able to make the dessert and then enjoy them.

    i LOVE this site!! i come on at least five times a week to check out your original, HEALTHY, fun recipes. i think i’m going to be in the kitchen EVERY DAY this summer, trying out all of these mouth watering foods.
    just one question – my mom doesnt really like me using the blender/food processor (it’s messy and hard to clean). is there any way to make your blender needed recipes without one?
    or am i gonna have to toughen up, make the delicious food and deal with cleaning my mess?

      I don’t think you can do a lot of the recipes without a blender or food processor, but if you use a Magic Bullet, I think the cups are dishwasher safe! A blender is definitely easier to clean than a food processor, if you have to choose… I usually run mine briefly with some water after making something and rinse right away to keep things from sticking and drying on before I can properly wash it. The recipes with all soft ingredients (nut butters, oatmeal pudding, fudge) you can usually get away with just mashing and stirring to combine. Hope that helps!

    I used to make banana pops for my kids when they were young, but I frozen them then dipped them in melted dark chocolate and sometimes chopped pecans. They were a real hit, and a healthy one, too. I think I’ll have to do that again soon…….thanks for the reminder!

    I liked helping in the kitchen only when helping meant taste-testing, lol. My brother and I used to take turns doing the dishes, and I hated it because someone would always dump coffee grounds in the sink and they’d get all over the rest of the dishes. That and no one pre-rinsed! I don’t mind as much now because I’m kinda OCD and try to pre-clean as much as possible (and it’s just me, so not too many dishes unless I’m on a cooking/baking spree).

    These sound fun and yummy! I need to try once I have more yogurt on hand. I’m guessing it’d work better with bananas that are not fully ripe? Seems like if they’re too soft they might fall off the stick. I think I found an excuse to try your magic shell! 🙂
