Rainbow Unicorn Dip

This beautiful rainbow unicorn dip might be the most magical thing I’ve ever made.

No one can resist the charms of this magical rainbow dip - the recipe is kid-friendly and super easy to make!

Unicorns are having a moment.

Magical, unicorn-themed food has been completely taking over Pinterest recently, from unicorn hot chocolate, to unicorn bark, to unicorn macarons and unicorn poop cookies (ummm…).

As someone who grew up with Lisa Frank and My Little Pony (please say you are not too young to remember these things!), the recent new profusion of rainbow on instagram and on the internet in general is making me ridiculously happy right now.

Of course I had to put my own spin on the unicorn dessert trend, and since cheesecake is one of my all-time favorite desserts, it was only natural I’d want to incorporate it into this fairytale-esque rainbow cheesecake dip.

I brought the dip to a Super Bowl party last night and served it with graham crackers.

So basically, it was a bunch of guys watching football while eating unicorn dip from a neon-pink serving bowl.

No one can resist the charms of this magical rainbow dessert!

An easy and kid-friendly recipe.

And now, if unicorn dip recipes start to take over your instagram and pinterest feeds, you know who to blame.

Sorry not sorry.

This easy-to-make rainbow dip was inspired by my Vegan Cheesecake Recipe.

You whip up the cheesecake batter, portion it into four dishes, then swirl all of your colors together to make one big and beautiful bowl of unicorn cheesecake dip.

The entire process takes about 10 minutes from start to finish, and there is NO baking required.

So how did I come up with the idea for Unicorn Dip in the first place?

My initial idea was actually for something totally different: unicorn banana bread!

That idea did not turn out too well, as the banana bread swallowed up any trace of rainbow filling during the baking process.

But of course I had to sample the filling as I worked.

Some recipes taste good but look ugly; some recipes look good but taste just okay – This is one recipe that looks beautiful and tastes delicious too!

It really is magical!

Watch the unicorn dip recipe video above

In the video, I skipped the four bowls and simply stirred the colors together all in the same bowl. This will produce a darker dip but it still works!

The video shows food coloring, while the photos show the natural version.

Rainbow Unicorn Dip

This beautiful rainbow unicorn dip might be the most magical recipe you'll ever make.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Yield 2 1/2 cups
5 from 27 votes

Ingredients

  • 12 oz cream cheese or vegan cream cheese
  • 1 cup yogurt (nondairy works too)
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar of choice, or monk fruit for sugar-free
  • food coloring OR a pinch turmeric acai powder, spirulina, and blue spirulina

Instructions

  • Bring cream cheese to room temperature. Blend all ingredients except the colors until smooth. Although a blender, food processor, or hand blender will yield smoothest results, you can technically stir by hand if you must. Divide among four little dishes and stir a different coloring into each dish. (Be very light-handed if using turmeric and spirulina, as these flavors are strong and a little goes a long way.) Drop spoonfuls of each color into a serving bowl, alternating colors. Then swirl colors together with a spoon. Leftovers can be covered and refrigerated up to three days.

Well, this made a happy start to my day! One more reason to make cheesecake dip–oh, darn! 😉
And I grew up with (agem, obsessively loving) Lisa Frank and My Little Pony, too! Hi five!!!

  2. Jessica Kuligowski says

My Little Pony is still popular to this day…although it’s changed. I don’t think I could remember a single name and I had at least a dozen ponies. Now there’s exactly 7. Thanks to my niece I can name them all. None of them are the ones I grew up with.

Not too young. I’m a 90s kid. They had them around until early 2000s. I remember shopping for Lisa Frank stickers and folders with my sisters at the special Lisa Frank store in our area (too bad they don’t have those anymore!) and to this day I can still recall the unique scent of the Lisa Frank brand… Amazing stuff.
I know what you mean about ridiculously happy. It made me ridiculously happy that you mentioned Lisa Frank and her unicorn rainbows! Nothing beats nostalgia.

By the way this dip is beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  4. Sandra says

This could not have been posted at a more perfect time as my youngest is having a Princess themed birthday party next weekend and we are going to make this! I’ll probably do a trial run during the week, mostly because I am so curious and can’t wait until Saturday to try it!

Thank you so much for letting me know, and please pass along my apologies – so embarrassing! These spam attacks are something that sadly cropped up in recent months and have been hitting all sorts of different blogs randomly. My ad network and other ad networks are trying to come up with a permanent fix, but until that can be done, it is definitely helpful to know the information you sent over so we can block them one by one. So thank you for letting me know, and please accept my apologies again!

What a good idea. I have found also found that beets make a really nice red – pink colour that lets us get away from Red dye food colouring.

How long does it usually take to write? Why do you write…? I’m so confused nowadays. So I’m writing to you because I need your advise. I don’t have any visitors. But I don’t be discouraged by it and keep trying harder!!! 🙂

This looks amazing! Definitely something I’d like to make with the kids. I may make these for my Wife’s Birthday which is the day before Valentine’s Day. I know, it’s an expensive month!

  10. Kelley says

Tried this today with some natural local yogurt and Philadelphia cream cheese. I subbed honey for the sugar. It was really runny, but still a hit. I’ll have to play with the ratio of ingredients so it’s not runny.

  11. Cassie Autumn Tran says

SAY WHAAAAAAAT? I’ve never seen anything so rainbowesque, magical, vivid, colorful, and fantastical in my entire life!! I could just feel that if I were to take a bite of this dip, I would already be turning into a unicorn. Hey, nothing wrong with that!

  12. Melissa says

oh my goodness!!! It’s so pretty! I’ll be making that for dessert Friday night when our oldest comes over with my DIL and grand kids – I know they will love it!

Can someone tell me how to swirl the colors without it turning gray? My test batch is half rainbow half gray! Haha. Still tasty

  16. Janina says

I used Green Valley Organic LACTOSE FREE cream cheese and, sadly, it was soupy and not able to be mixed together. The texture of the LF cream cheese is less firm, which I didn’t account for in the ratio with the yogurt.

  17. KD Langdale says

Oh my gosh!! I can not wait to make this!! I am such a huge unicorn lover so is my bestie.. I was so into Lisa Frank growing up, I think I had everything she made Lol. Thanks Katie for the recipe. 🙂

    Hi Katie,
Please suggest pairing ideas and different types of crackers as vegan graham crackers are hard to find.
    Thanks.

  20. Sara says

How do I pump this into the Galaxy Cupcakes? Pump in prior to baking the cupcakes or post? Since it is partial “cream cheese” was not certain. I am making the full vegan versions of both cupcakes and unicorn dip.

    • Jason Sanford says

You just spoon it in afterwards. Cut out a little piece of cupcake (not going all the way down – you don’t want a hole in the very bottom of the cupcake), fill with frosting, then smush the cupcake back on top.
      Jason

  21. Shannon Massimo says

    5 stars
    Everyone loved it.

Be aware of the colors you are mixing if you choose different ones. The first time I did pink, purple, and teal, which ended up with A LOT of purple….because pink and teal make purple! 😆 So if I had to do it again, I would do less purple to begin with so the end mix is more balanced.

Just a heads up. Again, delicious!

  22. Matthew says

So CNN stole your photo for this and used it in an article for “rainbow fentanyl queso”. I wish I was kidding. They cropped out your watermark, too! I’d send them a nice DMCA so people don’t assume of you.

Now, Thanks to them, I wanna try this recipe! (without the fentanyl, ofc 😂) it looks so cute!
