Dole Whip Recipe – Bring Disney to your Kitchen!

Homemade Pineapple Dole Whip Recipe – it’s so easy to make the famous Disney treat at home!

Pineapple Dole Whip With 5 Ingredients

Do you know about the famous Disney Dole Whip?

The original Dole Whip recipe—a swirled pineapple soft-serve dessert—enjoys somewhat of a cult following, with long lines of up to an hour at every location where it is served.

There’s even an app to tell hungry tourists how long they can expect to wait!

This popular frozen treat is only available at a few select locations, the most famous being Aloha Island near the Tiki Room in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. As it is so difficult to come by, I’ve only tried a real Dole Whip once in my life.

Based on that memory of a smooth, creamy, chilled pineapple confection with a slight lemon tang, I’ve come up with my own homemade version of the Disney favorite that can be whipped up in your very own kitchen.

Apparently the demand for Dole Whips is so great that in 2013 they started selling it at Six Flags too.

And a note to vegans: surprisingly, Disney’s Dole Whip recipe is vegan.

They recently reformulated the recipe, and the pineapple, mango, strawberry, raspberry, and orange flavors are all dairy-free and vegan.

Dole Whip In The Vitamix

Have you ever been to Disneyland or Disneyworld?

My favorite ride was always the Tower of Terror… but I was secretly terrified of it at the same time.

I also loved Splash Mountain, the Peter Pan ride, the Haunted Mansion, and getting to meet Snow White and Pluto (hey, I was five years old!).

Although I did love the soft-serve Dole Whip, my all-time favorite Disney food was definitely the cinnamon-sugar churros.

Churros are high on my list of things to try and make at home… don’t be surprised if you see them on this blog someday!

How To Make Pineapple Dole Whip

Blend all of the ingredients until smooth, using a blender or food processor.

You can either scoop out with a spoon or ice cream scoop, or fill a pastry bag and then pipe it out to achieve a swirly soft serve.

Both ways are equally delicious!

Total Time 5 minutes
Yield 3 servings

Dole Whip Recipe

  • 2 cups frozen pineapple
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (Try canned coconut milk for piña colada soft serve!)
  • 1/16 tsp salt
  • pinch pure stevia extract, or 2 tbsp sugar of choice
  • scant 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Blend all ingredients until smooth. Scoop out with an ice cream scoop, or squeeze through a pastry bag, yonanas machine, or a plastic bag with an edge cut off. (If your blender is not super-powerful like a Vitamix, you may need to add a little more liquid and then freeze a bit before serving, or churn in an ice cream maker.) For soft-serve that holds its shape longer, freeze the swirled dole whip at least 20 minutes prior to serving. Makes 3 servings the size of the pineapple whip in the photos.

Dole Whip! The soft serve place I worked at in junior high served this (in the late 80’s) I love this stuff! You can still get it at this place and a few others in Michigan.

Can’t wait to try your recipe.

  2. Joy @ Caspara says

Yum!! This looks great! We have been obsessed with pineapple lately, since moving to Hawaii.
As for the question of the day, yes! I have been to both! And Disneyland is better. ;-). I know this might start a battle, and I grew up going to Disneyland but didn’t go to Disney World till I was grown up with kids. I have been told that explains my bias. But Disney World just feels so spread out and watered down. You *have to * have a week to go, and it takes forever just to get in and out of the park. Disneyland, though, is the true blue original. You can come and go much more easily, which is great with kids. BUT, Disney World has the BEST water parks we have ever been to!

    • Laci says

I’m with Joy…I agree about Disneyland. I worked there for 2 years, so I know it well. But this year we visited Disney World and it felt too spaced out. We only had one day, so we only saw Epcot and Hollywood Studios though. I just feel like Disneyland has so much more to do and see in a shorter time.

You just made my day, though…I didn’t know Dole Whips were now dairy free! They were always my favorite; now that I’m dairy free I was so sad about missing out!

    • Kayla says

I definitely agree! I’ve been to Disneyland twice and Disney world once. Disneyland was so much better!! In Disneyworld you spend a whole day at one of the parks and then realize that you’ve only done like 4 rides. :S Everything is definitely too spaced out! Everyone in my family would agree with you!

Universal studios on the other hand, is much better in Orlando than in Hollywood. 😉

      • Anonymous says

While I agree that Disneyland was the original, and is easier to get in and out of, I do believe Disney world has more stuff to do with 4 parks, 2water parks, 32 resorts and a shopping district and a campground, Disneyland only has a fraction of that. I was so ecstatic when she released this recipe! I love dole whips! Laci-Dole whips have always been dairy free. I adore pineapple so dole whips are amazing!

I love your blog so much that I’m borrowing a computer, [I’m on vacation right now] to read this post. Looks and sounds delish! I can’t believe you’d remember how Dole Whip tasted like if you had it when you were 5! Seriously, I can’t even remember where I left my purse. This is definitely a must try for this summer.

  4. Katy @ Katy's Kitchen says

Those little Dole whips are so adorable! I went to Disneyland when I was little but never had a Dole Whip. However, I did have Dole pineapple soft serve at the pineapple plantation maze in Hawaii! Same thing? Can’t wait to try this one at home.

    • Amy says

This is a bit of a late response but it is DEFINITELY the same as the Dole whip at the Dole pineapple plantation. Dole did make it after all. 😉 It’s not Disney’s to own so you can find it in the International Market in Hawaii and a small drive-in in La Crosse, WI (among other places as well I would assume).

  5. Lisa says

Eeee…this got my all nostalgic about my younger years, I loved Disney world. Not really for the rides but the characters haha. I was young so I’ll just tell myself that’s why I was a scaredy cat.

When I went to Disney World a little later when I was about 12. I looooved the tower of terror. I even got a shirt that said I survived the tower of terror because I’m obviously that cool.

These are so cute, I definitely need to make them, this is why I love my vitamix.

  6. Paige says

I LOVE Dole Whip 🙂 we go to Disneyland every year and pineapple whips are a must every time. thanks so much for the recipe! I’ve been missing Disney lately.

Favorite ride, hands down, is Pirates of the Carribean. Such a classic and is amazing in Disneyland…The Disney World version isn’t my favorite.

  7. Wendy says

Oh Katie! Dole Whips are my favorite! We are Disney fanatics! We get annual passes every few years and one of the things I look forward to most are the Dole Whips! I can’t wait to make these for my two boys! I am going to try them now and listen to the tiki room music while I make them. Love your blog, and all of the recipies I have tried from it, but this is AWESOME!

  8. Danielle says

Hey, cute pictures today! Just thought you may want to be aware if you’re not already, there is an ad for bison meat running at the top of the page of your blog today. Since you’re vegan I thought you might want to know…

  9. Amy says

Growing up in California, I went to Disneyland at least once a year until I was 18, and I even went twice last year as an adult! It really is the happiest place on Earth… 😉 But my mom’s college roommate’s mother absolutely adored the Enchanted Tiki Room, so we always went there one or two times every trip. The line for the “ride” was pretty short, but the line for the Dole Whip cart right outside the entrance snaked all the way through Adventureland!

  10. Amber says

Great minds think alike–on Sunday I made the Detoxinista’s recipe for Dole Whip! My husband loves DW so much that he bought a t-shirt about it the last time we were at Hollywood Studios! When we went to Epcot a few weeks ago, during the flower festival, he ate DW *twice*!

  11. Megan @ For the Love of Cookies says

So I just recently visited Disney but didn’t find out about all the delicious foods they have there until I came home! Thank goodness for this recipe – now I can try the Dole Whip without having to go to Disney or Hawaii! Thanks!

  12. Erin says

Never been to Disneyland before (not even on a plane!) but this looks yummy. I bet my parents have had it. I should make this once midterms die down 🙂

  13. Kim @ Homesteader's Heart says

My dad and brother both worked/work there so we went a lot because we get in free. I LOVE Tower of Terror and Rockin’ Roller Coaster. I was in the Indiana Jones show last time I was there and THAT was a blast.
I can’t wait to make the Dole Whip.
    Have a lovely day.

  14. Krista S says

ive never been to disney world or land and i doubt i will ever get the chance but im going to make these for my kids and maybe do a disney themed day for them and hope that it might be something special for them, ty for posting this.

  15. Dana Sorensen says

I didn’t know they had these at Disney.. I’ve had them many times in Hawaii though! At the Dole plantation and in food courts. Thanks for the recipe, now I don’t have to go so far from home (Canada) to get one!

  16. Michelle @ Michelle's tiny kitchen says

My husband is a total Disney-phile, so we went on our honeymoon three years ago, and again on a “baby-moon” last summer. Last summer was my first time being vegan in Disneyworld and the options for vegans are amazing! My favorites were the Babycakes bakery tucked away in downtown Disney, and the fully vegan menu at Sanaa in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I can’t say I’m as enamored with Disneyworld as my husband or his family, but I’m so excited to take my baby boy there in a few years!

  17. Michelle says

WAIT They’re vegan we just went and stood in that line so my non vegan kids could get them… We settled for fresh pineapple… Oh man
It looked like ice cream so my husband and I passed
    Thanks for the recipe!!!!

  18. Jaime S. says

I had no idea it was in such high demand! They serve all the Dole Whip favors at our local ice cream stand! One flavor at a time, once they are out of one they start on the next flavor. I think this week was Strawberry. Can’t wait to try this at home!

  19. Jenni says

I went to Disney Land so many times as a kid, yet I don’t know a thing about this whip you speak of! How funny. I always went for the chocolate-covered frozen banana or the chocolate-coated vanilla ice cream shaped like Mickey. Although, churros were definitely consumed as well. Disney Land = Sugar Land.

  20. Jennifer says

This sounds fantastic!! I can’t wait to try this, especially with the coconut milk!! Thanks so much for sharing this and all of your other goodies!
