These easy 2 ingredient bagels are baked in the oven, with no yeast required for the super simple breakfast recipe!
What are 2 ingredient bagels?
This is without a doubt the easiest bagel recipe you will ever try.
They are based on the popular two ingredient dough trend sweeping the internet, where you combine self rising flour and Greek yogurt to form a yeast free dough.
These homemade bagels turn out deliciously soft, dense, and squishy, just like New York style traditional bagels.
I honestly did not expect them to taste anywhere near as good as they do!

The ingredients
Self rising flour – You can buy a package of self rising flour at most grocery stores. Or make your own self rising flour by combining 1 cup all purpose flour or gluten free all purpose flour with 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt.
Feel free to substitute spelt flour for the all purpose. While you can go with whole wheat flour, the resulting texture is denser and somewhat tough.
To make pumpernickel bagels, choose rye flour. Increase the baking powder by 1/4 teaspoon, because baked goods made with rye flour will not rise as much as those made with white flour.
Alternatively, you can make keto bagels with almond flour if you follow the recipe variation included further down in this post.
Yogurt – Typically, 2 ingredient bread dough calls for Greek yogurt. You can easily substitute it for a vegan alternative. I like dairy free Kite Hill Greek Yogurt.
If you wish to use regular yogurt instead, cut the amount back to just 3/4 cup because the texture of non Greek yogurt is thinner.

Substitutions for Greek yogurt
If you do not want to use any yogurt at all, I have successfully tested the recipe with four other options.
Canned pumpkin or mashed sweet potato work really well as a nutritious plant based swap. Add 2/3 cup pumpkin puree for every 1 cup of yogurt in the recipe.
You can use 2/3 cup applesauce for apple bagels or mashed banana and mini chocolate chips to make banana bagels.
If you try any other substitutions, be sure to report back for the rest of us with results.

How to make easy bagels with two ingredients
The first step is to preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Grease a baking sheet well, or line it with parchment paper. This will prevent the bagels from sticking to the pan while they cook.
In a large mixing bowl, stir the self rising flour and Greek yogurt together. If adding raisins or chocolate chips, stir them in now as well.
Depending on the climate, humidity, and type of flour you choose, your dough may either be too sticky or too dry. Slowly add a little more flour or yogurt as needed.
Knead the bagel dough with your hands to form a large ball.
Now break off smaller pieces and shape into bagels, poking a hole into the centers. Place the uncooked shaped dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving room in between each.
Bake on the oven’s center rack for 20 minutes or until cooked through with a classic bagel texture.
Spread with cream cheese, butter, or peanut butter.
Or top your bagels with a layer of sliced strawberries and Homemade Nutella.
Air fryer bagels
his recipe yields itself nicely to both conventional oven and air fryer cooking methods, with no boiling step required.
To make bagels in the air fryer, first preheat the machine to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Grease the grill plate well or use an air fryer liner to ensure dough does not stick to the pan while air frying.
Place the unbaked rings of dough in a single layer on the greased plate. If you have a smaller machine, you may need to do this in two batches because it is important to not crowd the grill pan.
Cook for 10 minutes, turning the rings over halfway through the cooking time.
2 ingredient bagel flavors
Cinnamon raisin bagels – Add a 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/2 cup of raisins to the dry ingredients before mixing.
You can also use this same idea with dried blueberries or cranberries to create blueberry bagels or cranberry bagels.
Everything bagels – After removing the pan from the oven, brush with butter or oil, or spray with oil spray for fat free bagels. Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top, or dip each bagel in a bowl of the seasonings.
Onion, garlic, sesame, or poppy seed bagels – Using the method directly above, sprinkle dried minced onion flakes, garlic flakes, sesame seeds, or poppy seeds onto each bagel top.
Asiago cheese bagels – Stir a handful of shredded cheese in with the flour. For cheesy vegan 2 ingredient bagels, go with your favorite nondairy cheese.
2 ingredient bagel bites – Shape the dough into balls, using your hands or a cookie scoop. Bake for just 12 minutes. This recipe yields 14 bagel bites.
Rainbow bagels – Divide the dough into small balls, and add a few drops of a different color food colorings to each ball. Break off small amounts of each color and swirl them together to form bagel shapes.
Health benefits
Thanks to the Greek yogurt, these bagels are surprisingly high in protein, packing in over 7 1/2 grams of protein each.
They are low fat, high fiber, and low calorie, with just 1 Weight Watchers point and 70 calories per bagel.
The recipe can be egg free, vegan, gluten free, and added sugar free.
Keto bagels variation
Instead of the basic bagel recipe in the box below, if you prefer to make low carb bagels without flour, use 1 cup almond flour or almond meal, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, and 3/4 tsp baking powder.
Add more yogurt if needed to form a dough.
Form into bagel shapes or keto bagel bites, and place on a greased baking tray.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and cook for 10 minutes or until slightly crispy with fully cooked centers.

Can these be baked in a silicone donut pan to get the bagel shape or would that mess up the texture?
CCK Media Team says
We would guess that should be fine. Be sure to report back if you try!

Have you ever had a New York style traditional bagel? They are most definitely not “soft, dense, and squishy”. NYC bagels have a hard crust and are chewy, which is the opposite of soft and squishy. I’ve made these before and they are great bread-like rolls, but definitely nothing like traditional bagels.
CCK Media Team says
I think this is just a difference in how you choose to describe bagels. Katie has had NY style bagels before. I am also versed in NY bagels and do believe they are soft and dense in the middle, not ever hard unless they are stale. I will agree with your assessment of the chewy texture.

How fun! Made the spelt flour & canned pumpkin variation and they’re a great snack with blackberry spreadable fruit. Will definitely make more with Greek yogurt and the other variants as they’re ridiculously easy & economical, too.
