“Strange Diet, Normal Life”

Hi, I’m Katie (CCK), a vegan and adherent of the “Chocolate-Covered Diet” philosophy for the past 8 years.

Although I don’t think my diet is strange, friends and family members definitely perceive my eating habits to be… different. But sometimes “different” is a good thing. After all, life would be really boring if everyone were exactly the same. :)

.

Veganism aside, I’m pretty much like any other girl my age.

I’m an avid runner who also enjoys writing, reading, hanging out with friends, helping people and animals, scrapbooking, learning about other cultures (I’ve lived all over the world), creating healthy chocolate recipes, etc. I have a wonderful omnivorous family and two terrific dogs whom I love to pieces.

blog

Oh, and I have an inordinate affinity for all things chocolate.

I eat it every day. :)

.

This blog chronicles my adventures as a normal girl eating a not-so-normal diet.

Hopefully, through reading my blog posts, one can see that it is possible to be a vegan and/or live a healthy lifestyle and still maintain a thriving social life.

(I also eat very little sugar. Click for more on why I avoid sugar.)

.

.Possible past or future post topics:

  • Eating vegan/healthy at sleepovers, parties, “on the go”
  • Healthy eating when there’s no time to cook
  • Fitting in with my “normal”-eating peers
  • Dates with meat-and-potatoes guys ;)

Many years ago, my mom made me do extensive research before she’d allow me to become a vegetarian; therefore I developed an extensive knowledge of nutrition and a passion for healthy-eating.  But I never deprive myself of my favorite foods or cravings, nor will I ever eat something I don’t love just because it’s supposedly good for me.  (I pass on wheatgrass!)  My philosophy is that one shouldn’t have to choose between good health and good taste; you can have your (chocolate!) cake and eat it too.

hey i just wanted to tell you i love your blog! it was the first vegan/food blog i ever read and i think you are beyond precious. your recipes are amazing, super easy and good, which is really important as being a vegetarian (and is your case a vegan) in college can be difficult.

p.s- i go to TCU, so right on for DFW vegan/vegetarians! :]

  9. February 28, 2009 1:03 pm

i was wondering if you like to watch documentaries about issues like the earth/ veganisme?

p/s; i put a link to your blog at mine. :)

Hey, the new blog looks great. Makes me contemplate a switch… the organizational possibilities warm my little OCD heart :)

  11. March 4, 2009 6:08 pm

Katie, I am loving the new format and look of your blog! I must admit, I kind of miss the blue background though =)

    Hello Katie,

I found your Blog while looking for articles on whether to use Blogger or WP. Apparently you are using both at this time.

Which are you liking more and why?

giving WP a quick look over I see that I can either use it via their free online service or install it on my own server. Has that been a consideration for you and do you know of any discussion of this topic?

    Carlos

P.S. I noticed that you have your e-mail address in both your information pages (Blogger and this one). Spam Robots pick up on them quickly and so that is one of the reasons why you are probably recieving tons of Spam in you Spam box or (worse yet) in your InBox.

    P.P.S. Your a real Cutie! (:>)

Great site. Everything is always better when covered in chocolate- though my affinity is an occupational hazard- I’m a nutritionist :)

And love the theme week- especially the vitamix Best thing ever!

I wish you could come and cook for me all the time so I can learn how to be vegan!
I always try to go vegetarian and then I somehow crave chicken and fall off the bandwagon…
and vegan must be much harder but you make it seem easy! I love animals so much thats why I keep trying to start becoming a vegetarian, how and when did u start?

    Katie,
Firs, I love your blog! I hope to learn something from you as I continue to read it :)

I had a questions for you, I am wanting to make a vegan dessert for the first time and was curious as to what dessert you would recommended for a first timer. I am not a vegan, but try to eat vegetarian about 90% of the time. I have had vegan desserts before from a good friend who is a vegan, but they seem like a challenge. Any easy recipe you recommend?

    Thanks!

    Erica

I would LOVE for you to cover those topics you listed! I have problems with all of them. My family was recently invited to dinner by another family and the main question was “what will Kelsey eat?” Not to mention, I go to camps and conferences all the time where food is provided, and here’s me, lugging in my cooler full of food. Any light you can shed on the matter would be wonderful. :)

    VeganJ,
I’m not sure what your comment means, as nowhere in my page does it say veganism is solely a diet.
