Who knew something so simple could taste so good?

And yet the oatmeal cookies are so tasty that it is hard to stop at just one!

3 Ingredient Banana Oat Cookie Ingredients

Ingredients for banana oat cookies

The only ingredients you need for the whole grain cookies are ripe bananas, rolled oats or quick oats, and regular or mini chocolate chips.

The recipe gives you many customization opportunities. Add a handful of shredded coconut, throw in some chopped walnuts, or substitute the chocolate chips for raisins.

These oatmeal banana cookies are wonderful with a fourth teaspoon each of cinnamon and pure vanilla extract or a drop of almond extract.

I also love to add almond butter or crunchy peanut butter, because there is nothing better in my mind than the combination of peanut butter, banana, and dark chocolate.

You could even use white chocolate chips or Vegan Peanut Butter Chips.

Adding an optional pinch of salt to the oatmeal banana cookie dough increases depth of flavor and really brings out the sweetness in these healthy cookies.

Substitutions I have not tried and therefore cannot recommend include swapping the banana with unsweetened apple sauce or canned pumpkin or using steel cut oats.

Use leftover banana to make Banana Muffins or Chocolate Banana Bread

How to make banana oatmeal cookies

If you will be baking the cookies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

First mash the bananas with a fork in a large mixing bowl. Add the oats and optional ingredients, and stir to form an eggless oatmeal cookie dough.

Refrigerate until firm enough to scoop the batter out with a spoon or cookie scoop.

For no bake banana cookies, simply freeze the cookies until hard. Or for baked cookies, place the unbaked cookie dough balls on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake on the oven’s center rack for twenty minutes.

Let the cookies cool on a wire rack before handling, as they firm up while cooling.

Store leftover banana oat cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer for optimum freshness.

They should last for about four or five days refrigerated or up to three months frozen. For the best taste and texture, make sure to thaw frozen cookies before serving.

If you prefer cookies without banana, make Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolate chip breakfast cookies

Eat the wholesome cookies for breakfast, snack, or dessert.

With potassium, fiber, iron, and no added sugar (not even maple syrup or honey), the naturally sweetened chocolate chip banana oatmeal cookies are a fun kid friendly and low calorie snack idea.

They are also a great natural source of energy for fitness buffs and athletes.

Just add a scoop of protein powder and some natural peanut butter for a filling power workout treat. High protein peanut butter banana protein cookies? Yes, please!

If you have superfood chia seeds, flax seeds, or hemp seeds on hand, stir in a small handful for added texture and nutrition benefits.

How do they taste?

At just 60 calories per cookie, these banana cookies are not going to taste like Nestle Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies or crispy Tate’s cookies.

Any similar recipe you find that tells you they will is not being honest with you.

However, the soft, chewy, and healthy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are absolutely delicious in their own right.

If you like healthy desserts and how energetic eating them makes you feel, you will hopefully really love this simple recipe too.

I find your website rather frustrating. Your recipes look awesome. But because I am deaf I need to be able to read and print them. Videos do not help me at all. I can’t find any way to do that.

Just made these and they are yummmmmmmmmmmm! Instead of chocolate chips, I added dried cranberries because I wanted it sugar free. And it’s delicious. Such an easy, quick recipe… especially when I had lots of overripe bananas!

how can u make this work with frozen bananas? can u thaw them and proceed as instructed? I’m just curious — in general — if using frozen bananas can work for cookie recipes. I know the consistency will be a little different, but has anyone any experience with this?

So easy and so good!! This recipe came up when I happened to have 2 overripe bananas in the fridge and looking for a chocolate chip cookie recipe. Way better than I thought it would be because it was just so easy. TEN stars!

Hi Katie, these are delicious! I know they’re not the real deal oatmeal cookies but they are wonderful and easy to make, without eggs or flour. I use your options, peanut butter, cinnamon, salt and I split 1/8 lilies chocolate chips and 1/8 raisins. I have the dry ingredients ready in a small container so when the bananas are ready, mash them, add PB, then dry ingredients and refrigerate. One of the best cookies, as are the oatmeal banana bars and THE BROWNIE BAKED OATMEAL. I’ve made them all more than once😋Thanks again Katie! Really like your great tasting and healthy food.
