This super easy and healthy blended baked oats recipe is completely taking over the internet right now, and for very good reason!
Baked oats have been all over social media this month.
Have you tried the popular recipe yet?
As someone who first started posting single serving baked oatmeal recipes way back in 2010 (yes, seriously… here’s proof), I am one hundred percent here for this trend.
For my take on the viral TikTok recipe, I used the chocolate chip cookie baked oats from my blog, doubled the milk for more of a gooey cookie dough texture and added a little baking powder to help the baked oatmeal cake rise.

Baked oatmeal ingredients
The recipe calls for rolled oats, baking powder, salt, milk of choice (plant based milk is fine), banana or applesauce, sweetener, and optional add-ins or toppings.
Can I use quick oats? Yes, you can! The recipe works with quick cooking oats or old fashioned oats. I do not recommend using steel cut oats in baked oatmeal.
What kind of sweetener? Use your favorite all purpose granulated, powdered, or liquid sweetener. For sugar free baked oats, erythritol or a stevia baking blend are fine.
What if I don’t want to use banana or applesauce? Substitute in ingredient with a similar texture, such as plain yogurt, canned pumpkin, mashed sweet potato, or silken tofu for high protein baked oats.
Can I use almond milk? Yes, almond, cashew, soy, coconut milk, or oat milk all work if you want to make vegan baked oats.
I topped mine with chocolate chips and Coconut Whipped Cream.
Here’s a chocolate version: Chocolate Baked Oats
And now I’m debating whether or not to actually start posting recipe videos on my currently empty TikTok account (chocolatecoveredkatie).
There are just too many forms of social media these days… it’s impossible to keep up!
How to make baked oats
If you’re baking the oatmeal in the oven, start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Or skip this step for microwave oatmeal.
Stir the rolled oats, baking powder, salt, milk of choice, banana or applesauce, sweetener, and optional nut butter together. Blend if desired.
Pour the baked oatmeal batter into a heat safe dish. If you want a gooey center inside, use a deeper dish or large mug. Otherwise choose a wide and shallow dish.
Bake 25 minutes on the oven center rack, or microwave one to two minutes. Apply toppings as desired, and enjoy.

TikTok baked oats
Feel free to bake the oatmeal in the microwave or the oven, whichever you prefer.
Or you can always skip the baking step entirely and just eat the unbaked oatmeal batter cold. To each their own.
Many of the trending TikTok baked oat recipes call for blending the oats (or using oat flour), so I blended mine this time too.
If you don’t have a blender or prefer a chewier texture to your baked oat cake, it’s fine to skip the blending step and simply mix everything together with a spoon instead.
As for variations, feel free to add a tablespoon of your favorite protein powder, stir 1/4 tsp of cinnamon into the batter, or add your favorite nut butter or Homemade Nutella to the center of the oatmeal cake.

CCK is about the only “social media” I use regularly! But this is one thing I am dying to try. We buy oats and applesauce in bulk… so this is happening for dessert. Dumb question though: What size dish do you use for the cake? I have a Pyrex oven safe 1 2/3 cup glass bowl, some mini loaf pans and a jumbo muffin tin. Which would work best to yield a thick, HUGE fluffy cake like in the video?? Thanks so much
CCK Media Team says
We are verrrry new to tiktok and still don’t really understand it! The ramekin in the photos is maybe a little over a cup size.
Alene says
Is this dessert or breakfast? Lol!
CCK Media Team says
Both! 🙂
Annabelle says
This looks awesome! Would I be able to take it for lunch and microwave it already cooked?

Katie Katie Katie! Haha. When I wanna make baked oats I use your original recipe😁. My fav!!

Do you think this would work in a larger quantity (maybe three or four times) to bake for a family? Also, it sounds like it would be best enjoyed straight from the oven, but would it still be good if extra was made ahead and then it was reheated? I want to try this either way. I eat oats almost every morning. 🙂
CCK Media Team says
We haven’t tried but would love to know if you do. Maybe by blending this recipe? https://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/chocolate-chip-breakfast-squares-to-go/
Barbara says
I just doubled the recipe with the addition of protein powder and nut butter and it didn’t poof up like the video at all. Still very gooey inside and out, but tasty 😋 oh, and i poured the batter into individual 2 cup ramekins and microwaved them individually.
Summer says
Recipe idea is great, but… not my cup of tea. Too gooey, didnt cook evenly, and not what I expected. Maybe a longer cooking time at a slightly higher temperature would make the edges crispier and the inside actually baked.
CCK Media Team says
We like (and prefer!) the gooey center, but if you want it more evenly baked then just use a wider dish instead of a deeper one. That should do the trick for what you’re looking for!
Outdoor Girl says
So good and gooey inside, hit the spot, just what I was craving! I used banana, almond milk, 100% real maple syrup for sweetener, 1 TBSP of natural pb and after blending, a generous handful of dark chocolate chips. I used a round 1c Pyrex dish which overflowed just a hair. This is going to be one of my go-to treats! Thank you Katie for yet another delicious recipe!

Thank you so much for trying it 🙂

This is my favourite recipe ever. I’ve tried this multiple times and it has never failed me. I saw it all over tiktok and I wanted to see if it was worth all the hype. In the end I chose the recipe and let me tell you, this is my all time favourite dish. It’s like you are eating cake but its a lot better for you (in my opinion). I was worried it was going to be to dense. Nope, thats not the case. It’s perfect in every way. I do add some strawberries in it anytime i make it and its so amazing. I just made them again but in muffin form and I absolutely loved them! I couldn’t recommend this recipe enough. Definitely give it a try.

Katie, were you able to get an actual oat “cake” in the microwave? I went with the microwave option and ended up with just regular oatmeal (I skipped the optional blending step), nothing like the old boatmeal! 🙁
Meg says
Tried this for the first time today and LOVED IT! I added a scoop of chocolate protein powder and topped with peanut butter. Baked at 350 and it was crispy on outside and creamy on the inside- delicious!!! Thank you!!
Liv&anna says
What is the texture of this? And flavor? I want to give it a try!
Jenn says
These baked oats are so good!!! Like, I would happily eat them for dessert instead of cake good. If you could do a chocolate baked oatmeal recipe too (so like this one, but with cocoa powder), I would love to see what you can come up with!
Diana says
Wow! This looks so good! I am definetly making this tomorrow! After I make it, I’ll leave a review! And you can expect a woderful review! 😉
Faye says
Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe.
This was so so so good. I used whole milk, and added 1tbs Dutch-process cocoa powder and a chopped date because I left out the sweetener. It tasted like the best chocolate bar on earth. I think next time I leave out the date since it made it a tad too sweet for my liking.
I’m definitely going to make this once a month to treat myself.
Another bonus is that this doesn’t ruin my diet.
Katie Milliken says
This was great! A healthy alternative to banana bread. Used oat milk and a whole banana. Sprinkled some semi-sweet chocolate chips on top and that was all the sweetener I needed!
Marlene Newland says
I love your recipes – much better than boiling oats!
Follow recipe completely, but for some reason I end up with a rather rubbery flat little cake. Tastes good, but definitely not fluffy. I suspect my tin is a bit flat (4″ x 4″) but should I use more baking powder? I would love it to look like a little fluffy cake!!
Do you use convection oven (normal oven) or fan-forced? Would fan forced oven dry it out. I realise I probably need to adjust cooking times.
Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi Katie- any idea how much oat flour to use if already have it and want to skip the blender step? Thanks!

Absolutely delicious! I made 4x the recipe and baked in a larger baking dish. I had some leftover batter that went in a ramekin. Cooked the ramekin for 25min and the larger dish for 35min. The ramekin came out a little dry but still great, and the larger dish gooey and perfect on the inside. Thanks for this recipe!!! I used mashed banana and oat milk.

Your version sounds even better!

Definitely recommend. So good! I used oatmilk and added peanut butter. I’m a tad obsessed.
Liz says
This recipe was so good! I used a mashed banana as my fruit, oat milk and peanut butter. It did NOT look pretty like Katie’s, and I was worried it was going to be dry and gross, but despite it not looking good, it was delicious. Saved to my favorites!
Carrie says
I have this in the oven right now! Can’t wait to try it.
I will say though that I feel like your nutritional info is way off. I entered the recipe into MyFitnessPal, using less sweetener than the recipe called for and got twice the amount of carbohydrates 🤷🏻♀️
Stephanie says
While I like the gooey/bread pudding like center, sometimes I would like to have a more bread like texture. What would you recommend modifying in the recipe?

This recipe was SO good!!! I doubled the recipe and baked it in an oven safe soup bowl which made the middle was nice and gooey. I served it with cherries I had in the freezer. I’ll definitely be making it again.

Pan-toast the raw oats before you use them.
Heat a non-stick or stainless steel skillet over medium high and toast the raw oats for a few minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
They are ready when they are lightly browned and smell like butterscotch.
This is a great improvement in any use of raw oats.
Kaylin says
I might be weird but I thought the baked oats were delicious for dessert.
Jen says
The best baked oats recipe I have found so far. Not quite perfect (I want it even more cake like) but better than the other five or so recipes I’ve tried from food blogs.
Kati says
Katie, you may have just saved my relationship with oatmeal! As a child, I loved it. As an adult, I just can’t. I’ve been trying recipe after recipe of oatmeal, baked oatmeal, overnight oats, and every time I threw it away disappointed (and disgusted). Today, I toasted the raw oats based on one of your commenters and chose not to use any sweetener. I also quadrupled the batch to make 4 servings and baked it for about 35 minutes in a standard loaf pan. IT IS DIVINE! I made a simple fresh peach compote to go on top with a couple peaches, some lemon juice, and a tsp of sugar. This is Quaker’s peaches and cream for adults! Thank you so much for helping me fall in love with oatmeal again! The only thing I will do differently next time is bake it for 40-45 minutes to dry it out just a bit more for my preference. THANK YOU!

Is it okay to omit the applesauce or banana? Or would it drastically change the texture?
Jodi says
Just add this! Used non fat Greek yogurt and pure maple syrup as sweetener. Seemed soupy so added another 1/4 or so of oats. Baked in air fryer for 11 minutes and it’s perfect!!!!!!!
Molly Daye says
This was delicious but what recipe is the 197 cal nutrition facts for? Cause I made it with a whole banana and 1% milk
Gwen Frita says
I’ve been making this for years now! A few months ago I made-a-head a large batch for camping and made a few adjustments. I use oat flour in place of rolled oats, 2 mashed bananas and 1/4 cup melted coconut oil. The texture comes out a lot better if you take time to sift the oat flour. Almonds and honey make a honey nut cheerio version!
Jill says
I can’t get over how easy and absolutely DELICIOUS this baked oats recipe is. I’ve had it on repeat and I can’t get enough. I add a little vanilla extract to mine and take a minute off the bake time for just a little extra gooeyness and it’s perfection. Thank you, Katie and team!!
