This thick, fudgy, secretly healthy Dairy Queen copycat chocolate brownie blizzard recipe is a brownie lover’s dream come true!

Homemade chocolate brownie blizzard
Growing up, I used to absolutely love Dairy Queen chocolate blizzards.
Rich brownie batter and fudgy brownie bites are blended into a creamy chocolate soft serve so deliciously thick. it stays in the serving cup if you hold it upside down.
But even a small DQ chocolate blizzard packs in a shocking 770 calories, over 100 grams of carbs, and close to 80 grams of sugar – and that’s just for a small.
Not to mention the corn syrup, white flour, artificial colors, and preservatives.

Chocolate blizzard health benefits
Each serving contains fewer than half the calories and about just a fourth of the sugar in a similar sized chocolate blizzard from Dairy Queen.
The refreshing chocolatey treat can be dairy free, egg free, raw, vegan, gluten free, paleo, and added sugar free.
And the homemade version is high in iron, potassium, fiber, and protein.
It can be nut free if you use Homemade Nutella, sunflower butter, Coconut Butter, or your favorite peanut butter substitute.
There’s also a banana free option in the recipe for those who prefer their chocolate frozen dessert to not include any banana flavor at all.
The recipe was inspired by this Chocolate Protein Shake
Katie’s favorite brownie recipes
For a true brownie batter blizzard, bake up a batch of from-scratch or boxed brownies and stir them into the thick chocolate soft serve after blending.
Here are a few of my personal favorite options:
The brownie part is optional. For a quick, almost instant chocolate dessert, feel free to skip the brownie baking. Instead, you can stir in a spoonful of mini chocolate chips or top with chocolate syrup and Coconut Whipped Cream.
How to make a healthy chocolate brownie blizzard
- Start with ripe, brown spotted bananas. Peel and freeze the fruit ahead of time so you can enjoy a quick chocolate ice cream blizzard whenever a craving hits.
- Add all ingredients except brownies to a blender or food processor. Blend until thick and smooth.
- Stir in brownie crumbles, and garnish with dairy free whip cream and additional crumbled brownies.
- This recipe is best eaten right away. Thankfully it’s so easy to make that you can whip up a single serving any time you want!

Katie, in the redesigned version of the recipes sent by email (redesigned sometime in late June or early July?), there is no longer a link to the post from the email. Are you aware of this? Is this intentional or an accident in the process (I hope) of being fixed?
CCK Media Team says
Hi! Sorry for the confusion! We didn’t realize that until someone pointed it out to us, so the past two emails (this one included) should have a link to the blog post where it says “Here’s a printable version” right before the ingredients. Maybe we should also make the first photo a link?
Avra says
Okay, I see that. I had assumed that was a link to the print page rather than the actual blog post. Wouldn’t it be clearer to just have the title of the recipe at the top of the email and have that be a link, like it used to be?
CCK Media Team says
We are with a different company now, so their options are different. The recipes should be much easier to read than they were before, especially on mobile 🙂
Avra says
So on the actual recipe–do you have an estimated volume measurement for 3 bananas?
Anna says
Amazing, but I could not get my vitamix to blend the ice cream without adding a little bit of milk. I made it with chunks of still warm from the oven black bean brownies, YUM

So, I made this “me style” after craving something like it for so long. In the freezer I had pieces of “failed” chocolate protein donut experiment that involved sweet potatoes.. they didn’t hold together but tasted good. I also used an ice cream base that was made from thick coconut milk and avocado – I added cacao powder, salt and monkfruit. Instead of blending since the nice cream base was already made, I stirred gently in the bowl the thawed ice cream, a little PB, coconut oil based chocolate sauce, and creamed cashew.
Tasted SOOOO mazing – makeout levels. And barely any sugar, mindblowing. A little applesauce and coconut sugar in the donut and the rest monkfruit pure powder. I kept thinking, if this was served to someone, they would never know the package ingredients reading: avocado, coconut, sweet potatoes, cashews, etc. Ahahah! How can it be so healthy and so indulgent! Thanks for the inspiration as always!
